Getting Your Green Card
Can my chat friend get fiancé (K-1) visa for me?
Online friendship is not sufficient: Just knowing an American citizen online is not sufficient. You need to meet him/her physically, in the United States, in Turkey, or somewhere. And, you need to document your relationship by submitting photographs, personal letters, postcards, and similar media. Email messages that you sent and received also help. In short, you need to prove that you met each other and continued your relationship as of application date of fiancé (e) visa. This period should not be less than two years.
Visa and Green Card: K-1 visa allows you, the Turkish citizen, to come over to the United States legally and work ((Form I-765). You have 90 days, after entering the U.S., to get married and apply for Green Card (permanent resident status). Green Card allows you to stay and work (Form I-765) in the United States permanently. Your American citizen fiancé is supposed to make the application (USCIS Form I-129F), Petition for Alien Fiancé.
Where to apply? Your American citizen fiancé or spouse is supposed to submit petition to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services -USCIS or BCIS (formerly Immigration and Naturalization Service - INS) office in the United States and you need to make your application for visa at American Consulate office in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, or Adana.
